Blogging 101

July 4th 2006: My FIRST BLOG

Hello everyone!

My name is Mariles. A college student from the island of Cebu, Philippines.
am currently inside an internet cafe where I am renting a desktop computer to access the internet (ten pesos per hour). The library was jam-packed earlier today so I decided to hang  out in here for an hour and explore the web.

The internet is a powerful tool to explore our gigantic world . Its so amazing I am able to pull up tons of information by using the search engine like Yahoo or Google in a matter of seconds. Few months ago, I created my profile accounts in various social networking sites to connect with different people from miles away most especially my sister, Ate Bebie in Taiwan and my relatives in the United States. I just created my accounts on Friendster, Myspace and started to blog on Multiply and Blogger. Some are kind of complicated but I am having fun learning the basics of blogging and social networking. 😉

I am huge lover of life. I love to dance, sing, read, write, travel, and I am always excited to meet new people, try new food and delicacies. I am thrilled to start this new journey and virtually share my thoughts during my free time.

To those who do not know what blogging is~

What Is Blogging?

A web log, often shortened to "blog," is a web page that contains dated posts, by one or multiple users, often pertaining to a particular topic. "Blogging" is the act of writing in a blog.
Originally, blogs could only be created by someone who already knew how to build a website. In recent years, however, many build-your-own-web-log tools have come on to the market, some of them free, and now, anyone with Internet access can create their own blog.

What Can I Post in My Blog?

The short answer is, anything. You can start a blog on any topic, including yourself. Most blogs are a mix of commentary, personal notes and links to other websites. You can write in-depth essays on serious subjects, or you can use blogging as a form of journal writing, posting thoughts on the movie you saw last night or something you thought of on the way to work. You can also upload graphics, video and sound files.
Most blogs contain links to websites you think your readers would be interested in, or to a post on someone else's blog that pertains to what you're discussing in your blog. Bloggers can even hold "conversations" between their blogs, with each blogger agreeing or disagreeing with another blogger's posts.

How Do I Put Up My Blog?

If you already have a website, you can devote one or more of its web pages to your blog. There are also several blog communities, such as LiveJournal.com, that allow you to create a blog on their site. Many of these are communities are free, but they usually offer the option to upgrade to paid service, which will give you additional features such as a photo journal, an email address or a subdomain name for your blog.
Does blogging sound like fun? It is! Share your thoughts with the world, and start blogging today.
